It depends on the font size context, thus the size can even
be larger than \normalsize:

\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}
X\textsuperscript{A}{\scriptsize A}{\tiny A}

Normalsize: A

{\Huge
X\textsuperscript{A}{\scriptsize A}{\tiny A}
}
\end{document}
