[XeTeX] zf at basefont messages

I am using Miktex 2.8 with ledmac and polyglossia to typeset ancient Greek. This morning I had a disaster which I think originated from using an unescaped & [ampersand] in a footnote. The file stopped compiling but I could reconstruct it from a very recent backup.

All is now OK except that in the console output I am getting messages I have never seen before in the form: zf at basefont [some of my text such as Καὶ αὐτῶν δὲ τῶν ἐχιδνῶν οὐχ ��

�λα τὰ ζῶα εἰς ἀντίδοτον πέμπομεν.] Sometimes the text is quoted perfectly, sometimes a couple of characters are replaced by a ? in a black diamond as if the font is incapable of displaying a character.

I should emphasise the problem is only in the console output, the text comes out perfectly ok in the pdf, including the bits which in the console output are replaced by a ?

This is happening with all my files – i.e. older backups which cannot have been directly affected by this morning’s calamity.

Is this something to worry about? Looking at the log  (below) it seems I have called up a math font without meaning to.
