Howdy,

If you are on OS X 10.6.2 and using MacTeX(TeX Live)-2009 try doing a Safe Boot (hold the Shift Key down when you boot until the login window appears). This cleans out many system caches that may have faulty font information. Snow Leopard now has Hoefler Text as a ttc rather than dfont and there were some problems with the font or a while.
