[XeTeX] LaTeX Error: File polyglossia.sty not found

Hi,

I'm trying to compile a file with some paragraphs in Arabic using XeLaTeX.
In my preamble I have \usepackage{polyglossia} and I get the message in the
subject when I try to compile the document.

When the console tells me that a package or file is missing, I got to CTAN,
download the package polyglossia and put it in ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex. So
I did in this case, and I expected to have the file polyglossia.sty in the
new directory, but there's none.

Could someone tell me what could be wrong? I'm stuck :/

I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11 and editing and compiling with TeXShop (I don't
know whether that's relevant, but there you go).

In case this helps:

kettle:~ souto$ latex -v
pdfeTeX 3.141592-1.30.4-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5)
kpathsea version 3.5.5
(...)

kettle:~ souto$ xelatex -v
XeTeX 3.141592-0.995 (Web2C 7.5.5)
kpathsea version 3.5.5
(...)
