[XeTeX] Installed TexLive 2008 on Kubuntu Laptop, but cannot execute files

Hi:

I just installed TexLive 2008 on a Kubuntu laptop. The installation
is in /usr/local/texlive/2008.

But when I type  latex in the konsole, I get latex not installed
please apt-get install texlive-latex-base.

How do I set the path to texlive bin files.
