Assembled Wisdom,

what am I doing wrong here, and/or what is missing on my system (XeTeX
3.1415926-2.2-0.999.6 (Web2C 7.5.7) on OSX 10.5.8)?

Minimal example:

\documentclass[11pt,letter]{article}
\usepackage{xltxtra}
\usepackage[english]{babel}
\usepackage[babel]{csquotes}
\usepackage{polyglossia}
\setdefaultlanguage[variant=british]{english}
\setotherlanguage[spelling=old]{german} %option ogerman gives error (Manual
p. 4?)
\setotherlanguage{french}

\setmainfont{Courier}

\begin{document}

This is a silly example in a common font.

\end{document}

results in:

 (/usr/local/texlive/2008/../texmf-local/tex/latex/polyglossia/gloss-french.ldf
! Undefined control sequence.
l.23 \newXeTeXintercharclass
                            \french at punctthin % ! ? ;

When I remove the \setotherlanguage{french} (of all languages!!!), it
compiles fine, and it also works if I switch back to my older version of
polyglossia.

Any hint(s) received most gratefully.

Rembrandt
