Hi Barry,

Curious indeed; and it raises an interesting question.

xunicode is looking for Ux0259 ; viz.

   \DeclareUTFcharacter[\UTFencname]{x0259}{\schwa}
   \DeclareUTFcharacter[\UTFencname]{x0259}{\textschwa}   %  TIPA-@

In cases like this, is it reasonable to look at alternative
locations, when the font doesn't support the character at a
lower code-point?
Preferably such a fall-back mechanism would be handled within
a separate style file for the particular font.

But it might be reasonable for xunicode to keep a listing
of such possibilities, to make it easier for someone to write
that font-specific package.

Thanks to both Barry and Fr Michael for these little facts.

Cheers,
