[XeTeX] xetex updates

I tried to use the package pdfpages and got

! Package pdfpages Error: Package pdfpages requires at least XeTeX-0.997.

How does one update to  XeTeX-0.997. without upgrading to tl2008? If I  
can't or one wonder why not upgrading, I read on some pages on the net  
that Kile, among other issues, would not work after upgrade. Since I  
am quite happy with what I have now I'll prefer to get the steps to  
get to XeTeX-0.997.
