[XeTeX] Latex class for splitting page into two horizontal sections

Another option may be the "memoir" class. Look for a file called memman.pdf on your computer, that is the user manual for memoir. Memoir has built-in typesetting for poetry and similar material. You may be able to do what you want with memoir, so give it a try!
