Your problem seems to be different to the one of Martin: He at least get
parts of the picture while in your case the conversion fails completly. 

Search dvipdfmx.cfg and check the setting for ghostscript. It should
have a line starting with

%% Use MiKTeX Ghostscript:
D  "mgs.exe -q 

Make sure to search in all roots for dvipdfmx, perhaps you have
somewhere a double from an older installation which goes in the way.
