In this case you need to change the output routine to rotate the
entire pages. So package atbegshi or everyshi is what you need.
Shipout should be customized, though.

Do not use package gezhu in this case if you don't need warichu
support. It does NOT deal with changing the output routine to rotate
the page or other things related to vertical typesetting. Package
zhspacing is also not necessary if you don't need to mix English and
Chinese together and you don't need to change the punctuation
spacings.

I wonder what you mean by "not entirely transparent". hehe.
