[XeTeX] XeLaTeX & Babel

Thank you, Apostolos, but, if it's true that

> babel is for LaTeX/pdfLaTeX and polyglossia is
> for XeLaTeX.
then the minimal example below should not have babel load when
processed, right?

\documentclass[letterpaper, 11pt]{memoir}
\frenchspacing
\usepackage{xltxtra}
\setmainfont[Mapping=tex-text]{Minion Pro}
\usepackage{polyglossia}
\setdefaultlanguage[variant=us]{english}
\begin{document}

This is a test.

\end{document}

But the output begins with:

Sun Aug  3 10:52:46 EDT 2008
This is XeTeXk, Version 3.141592-2.2-0.996 (Web2C 7.5.6)
 %&-line parsing enabled.

Will this concurrence of babel continue with Xe(La)TeX in TL2008? Is it
loaded automatically with LaTeX?
