[XeTeX] : Any progress on letterspacing in xetex?

Does the soul package not work ('soul' = spacing out and underlining)?  Its 
default letterspacing parameter can be reset at will so you can have 5% 
tracking, 10% tracking and so on when you need it.  It works in plain TeX 
but I don't know whether it would be confused by Unicode glyphs.
