Howdy,

The only reason that line is in the (pdf/xe)latexmk engine files is  
because latexmk looks for the .bib file along the $BIBINPUTS path  
instead of being smart about things and using kpsewhich and issues a  
(meaningless, but ominous sounding) warning although bibtex finds  
things just fine. On Macs one rarely creates the BIBINPUTS  
environment variable so the engine temproarily creates one with a  
proper path from kpsewhich but is careful in case the user already  
has one defined.
