Maybe --with-old-mac-fonts? I'm not sure what the defaults are. There  
was talk of changes to the Mac-specific stuff, so it may be different  
in 2.3.x from 2.2.1; we haven't updated the code in TL yet, as it was  
too close to the release.

The TL sources are available via svn (or rsync, I believe).... see  
the TUG site. You can browse the tree online at http://tug.org/svn/ 
texlive/trunk/Build/source/. Sorry, I don't remember details offhand,  
I just know that it builds successfully.
