[XeTeX] using xetex in make

You seem to be using an unusual filename pattern (*.xetex instead of  
*.tex), so I'm completely sure, but I'd wager that it is a problem  
with the environment. You could try to run "env" both from the shell  
and from the makefile and compare the output. If any TeX-related  
information differs, you have the culprit. Shell-initialization is  
one of the most intricate problems in the Unix world ;-)
