Good point. Yes, that should also work.

The *real* answer is that they'll be located (provided the filename  
databases are current) from any of the paths shown by:

	kpsewhich --show-path "misc fonts"

which, on my gwTeX-based setup, includes "." (current dir) as the  
first option.
