By the way, if anyone's thinking along similar lines to me, I'm  
probably adding this functionality to a LaTeX package in the near  
future. That is, loading the OpenType Latin Modern fonts by default.

But it depends. Last time I checked they didn't support automatic  
optical sizes, which is kind of annoying.
