[XeTeX] XeTeX, hyperref and bokmarks in preview on Mac OS X

Bookmarks produced by XeTeX using the package hyperref are shown in
preview but have no effect when clicked on, i.e. the document is not
positioned to the corresponding location.   While in Bachotek I was told
that preview cannot handle such bookmarks (whereas the acrobat reader
can, which I verified). However, I have seen other documents - not
produced by XeTeX - which have bookmarks which behave as expected also
in preview.

As I am not a PDF expert: can someone please explain this difference?
