No, I don't think so. I am used to "| (meine freiberuf"|lichen  
Tätigkeiten). It is defined as:

	\declare at shorthand{ngerman}{"|}{%
	  \textormath{\penalty\@M\discretionary{-}{}{\kern.03em}%
	              \allowhyphens}{}}
