[XeTeX] Installing XeTeX on Kubuntu Edgy with texlive packages

What would be appropriate? Here both 'type -p' and /usr/bin/which do not
dereference symlinks, eg:

~$ type -p xelatex
/usr/local/bin/xelatex
~$ /usr/bin/which xelatex
/usr/local/bin/xelatex
~$ dash -c 'which xelatex'
/usr/local/bin/xelatex
~$ ls -l  /usr/local/bin/xelatex 
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root staff 5 2006-05-18 00:16 /usr/local/bin/xelatex -> xetex
