What about:

– Lido STF (http://www.stormtype.com/free.html) – redesign of Times
for a Czech newspaper, with a nicer italics, bold and bold italics,
both in regular and condensed, with lots of accented characters

– Fontin (http://www.josbuivenga.demon.nl/fontin.html) – very nice
designed font with italics, bold, bold italics and small caps

– Delicious (http://www.josbuivenga.demon.nl/delicious.html) – sans
serif font from the same designer, with true italics, likewise complete

– Andron Scriptor (http://www.mufi.info/fonts/#Andron) – another
unicode project font

– Behrens-Schrift (http://moorstation.org/typoasis/designers/
steffmann/samples/b/behrens.htm) – modern blackletter typeface,
design 1901 from famous german architect and designer Peter Behrens
[for more historical typefaces, have a look at http://
www.moorstation.org/typoasis/blackletter/index.htm]

– Yanone Kaffeesatz (http://www.yanone.de/typedesign/kaffeesatz/) –
nice headline font in thin, light, regular and bold, with many ligatures

All of these are in otf format. Of course there are tons of freeware
fonts both in ttf and type1 on the net. Have a look at a CTAN mirror
(e.g. DayRoman, Web-O-Mints and many interesting others).

Regards,
joachim
