I've not used i-Installer to update XeTeX, since it still offers  
version 0.994a. Instead, I've downloaded the disk image which is on  
XeTeX's site and used the package it includes.

No, I have an almost unmodified gwTeX; I've only added two entries to  
language.dat for Unicode Greek and Sanskrit hyphenation patterns. I'm  
not sure I understand your last question; I've executed "fmtutil -- 
all" to recreate formats.

Yes, LaTeX does work, and XeLaTeX too. I have no pdfTeX source files,  
so I couldn't try to see what happens.
