[XeTeX] "I can't find the format file `xetex.fmt'!"

I have the same error message as José below (after a large-scale
reinstallation which was not occasioned by XeTeX).

I'm not sure I understand Herb's message below. Doing what I thought
he meant, I removed the xelatex.fmt and xetex.fmt files from ~/
Library/texmf/web2c/. The result when I ran XeTeX was this error
message:

> This is XeTeX, Version 3.141592-2.2-0.95 (Web2C 7.5.3)

I would greatly appreciate advice.

Howdy,

It appears that the xelatex.fmt file that is being found is in your
personal tree. Try just moving the xelatex.fmt and xetex.fmt files
from ~/Library/texmf/web2c/.

Good Luck,
