I tried this. I don't think it is an acceptable long term solution  
for full-time Arabic editing.

Do you know if there are similar problems in with other scripts?

I don't even know what that means.

Is something like Mellel's option for a primary font and a secondary  
font possible to implement on top of the existing Cocoa classes that  
TeXShop uses?
