This is what I was hoping for!
It looks to me that the entire math setup needs reworking to work 
correctly with XeLaTeX, and furthermore it looks like this might not 
even be possible until we sort out some kind of way to access extended 
characters in mathchar.

I'll keep it on my to-do list and see where it takes us.
