Duh! I am moving myself from Textures to TeXShop and friends. 
Misguidedly, as it turns out, I put the entire contents of my entire 
Textures folder in 'plain' for safe keeping. A mistake which I will 
rectify. Thanks for the help -- everything is back to normal.
