Well, the license for the Utopia bundled with Xfree &c. is compatible 
with X-Window (MIT?) Anyway, Adobe donated it to the X-Consortium, 
that's why it's so readily available.

The .vf issue is kind of tedious --- one would have to stitch all the 
characters together from the discrete fonts --- but technically no 
huhu.
