I'll try it. I'll put a tfm in that position, and my expectation is that the worst I will get is a single path through pk. This is assuming, of course that ls-R is properly refreshed, but with a font repertory of 150 faces or so, I have to assume that. Any directory hierarchy with a lot of terminal diredtories will thrash in the absence of an up-to-date ls-R file.
