$M^\circ$ will give : [image: M^\circ]

I think what you asked for is [image: \stackrel{\circ}{M}]which is
$\stackrel{\circ}{M}$

or perhaps this:[image: \stackrel{\circ}{\mathrm{M}}] which is
$\stackrel{\circ}{\mathrm{M}}$
