Beamer PDF pages are extremely small in inches since the size is 
optimised for screen presentations at <= 100 dpi.

It is better to use _relative_ measurements like 0.5*\textwidth
in beamer documents. (You can use the "calc" package to allow TeX to
perform simple arithmetic with dimensions).
