What is the output format that you are looking at?
Essentially any kind of graphic file can be included within the
DVI file once there is a way to compute its bounding box. The actual
graphic file will be included as a "special".
The main problem is how you are thinking of printing the output of
TeX. In most cases some form of conversion is required before
printing.
