I am just thinking of writing a small piece on getting and 
installing the AUC-TeX and view-latex for Emacs. As Emacs comes 
with Linux I have not separately installed, so I have no idea. In 
the next two/three days I will post my experience with 
AUC-TeX/view-latex.
