I got that same failure on sparc-solaris (5.10, one of Nelson's
machines), as did (interestingly) Norbert on alpha-linux.  Evidently
some actual problem in the code, with failures on two such different
platforms, but since Norbert already reported it to Eddie, I'm not going
to pursue it either.  --disable-lcdftypetools seems a sufficient
workaround.
