[tlbuild] ttftotype42 on linux/alpha

Hi Eddie,

I am one of the builders for TeX Live, responsible for alpha-linux,
and I am seeing broken output of ttftotype42 after building.
The test that is made is running ttftotype42 on the font
FonetikaDanialwonaeBold.ttf, see
http://www.tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Build/source/texk/lcdf-typetools/tests/FonetikaDaniaIwonaeBold.ttf
and comparing it with known good output.

What happens is that ttftotype42 adds spurious zero bytes in the
several strings, the full diff is:

There are other tests that are failing, too (otfinfo), but I guess
that is all related.

The build environment is Debian/squeeze (I guess) with gcc 4.1.2

Unfortunately I cannot give you access to the system, as I am myself
also only a guest there.

Do you have any idea what could be the reason and whether you see a way 
to fix it?
