Last year, I tried to explain that third-party libraries (/usr/local/)
and base system are decoupled on FreeBSD:

To repeat: these third-party libraries are not "put" into /usr/local/
as part of some release process (as you said). FreeBSD simply does not
work that way.

There is no need for separate "9.0" binaries this year, just as there
was no need for separate 8-STABLE or 9-CURRENT binaries last year.
Again, as I said last year, the existing binaries are built to provide
maximum possible portability: they work on all releases on 7, 8 and 9
branches, including installer and even biber.
