Still haven't had time to change compilers yet, but here's the
weirdness so far...

Freebsd 7.0, amd64 - gcc 4.2.1: builds fine
Freebsd 6.3, amd64 - gcc 3.4.6: gcc error on icu-xetex
Freebsd 6.3, i376 - gcc 3.4.6: builds fine

I'll give a shot at seeing if I can get 4.2.1 as the compiler
