Would it be possible to amend TeXworks to not steal
focus from the text-mode window when the PDF is displayed ? A
frequent usage scenario is that one is performing a series of
search-and-replace experiments in the text-mode window while
observing the effect in the PDF window, and with the current
behaviour the next search is invariably a "Search PDF" rather

That feature already exists (though, admittedly, it's rather well
hidden). Go to Edit > Preferences... > Typesetting, select the
processing tool of your choice and click "Edit...". In the dialog
that opens up, uncheck "View PDF after running". This prevents Tw
from opening/focusing the PDF view after typesetting with the
selected tool. If the PDF is already open, it should still detect
the changes on the harddisk and refresh.
