I'd like to provide an easy way to handle this, but it's not currently implemented.

You mean automatically? That's inherently problematic; in many cases it's impossible to be sure, if the text contains just a few non-ASCII codepoints.

For TeXworks to use any such library, it would also need to be readily portable to Windows and Mac OS X, not tied to other aspects of Linux or KDE.
