Yeah, we are aware of this and it's on our wishlist
(http://code.google.com/p/texworks/issues/detail?id=36). However, this
is not trivial, unfortunately. Since Tw is a cross platform tool,
whatever we come up with should work on all platforms. Unfortunately,
each platform has a different way of launching applications, and has
different pdf viewers which require different data in the first place.
The bottom line is that this will have to be implemented on the basis of
some sort of plugins geared towards one specific app on one specific
operating system. Such an interface doesn't exist, yet, however.

BTW: It may be advisable to also send the request to support synctex to
the developers of your favorite pdf viewer (this actually shouldn't be
too hard to implement). Tw is technically designed as a TeX editor with
a previewer, not (primarily) as a standalone pdf viewer.
