I know an other behaviour: in my main editor jeditx (http://www.artman21.com/en/jedit_x/ 
) the two option stand be side-by-side.
And literally "side-by-side" the dialog window looks as attached:

Jonathan: way did you make it grayed out?
In my opinion it does make sense to perform a search in a selected area
sometimes only up to the end and the other time running around!
