Update your beamer version. It is a problem with the latest
update of the geometry package.

Thank you.That seems to have, at least initially, solved the
problem. <br>
<br>
For others who might fall into the same trap, be aware that the
version of Beamer at Sourceforge<br>
<br>
<a href="http://sourceforge.net/projects/latex-beamer/">http://sourceforge.net/projects/latex-beamer/</a><br>
<br>
is 3.07. I reinstalled this version before I sent my original query.
I neglected to read the fine print which reads:<br>
<br>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate;
color: rgb(94, 94, 94); font-family: 'Times New Roman';
font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal;
letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2;
text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal;
widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; font-size: medium;"><span
class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(119, 119, 119);
font-family: arial,helvetica,clean,sans-serif; font-size: 13px;
line-height: 18px; text-align: left;">The Beamer class is a
LaTeX class for creating presentations using a video projector.
