<P><FONT SIZE=2>Others have already replied, but perhaps before you send similar questions about @, %, _, ^, $ etc. you might just like to take a glance at one of the introductions to TeX/LaTeX (which probably came with tour installation); this is one of the very first things they explain.</FONT></P>
