Before, the OP complained that \infty appears too small. 
He may be trying to assign a different size to it 
referring to \f at size, maybe reinventing the relsize package:

    http://ctan.tug.org/pkg/relsize

It would be interesting whether \larger{\infty} makes a 
(pleasing) difference.
