[texhax] latex doesn't find style files

Not sure I follow your questions.

The distro is debian linux, and I've used the install-tl script (ver 20111110) from CTAN.

For example, hhtensor.sty which was installed into 
/usr/local/texlive/2011/texmf-dist/tex/latex/hhtensor/hhtensor.sty

is not found, unless I add 

/usr/local/texlive/2011/texmf-dist/tex//

to TEXINPUTS

what does

which latex

say?

does that correspond to the one you have just installed.

If not, make sure to change your PATH
