[texhax] \captions not appearing using float package

I am sure I'm doing something stupid, but I can't figure out 
what.  I am using the float package to create a new kind of 
float.  Each instance of these floats has a \caption.  The 
caption appears in the list of floats, but it does not appear 
with the actual float.  If I change to a figure or table instead 
of the new float type, and change nothing else, the captions do 
appear as expected.
