Yes.

You can always install a package like beamer manually in a local
texmf tree. You only need to download beamer.zip from CTAN, unpack
it, move the files to the correct folders (which can be tedious as
beamer is large) and then update the FNDB.

With winedt 6 you get menu entries for xe(la)tex and lualatex and a
saner (in my opinion) interface for configuration.

Also in general newer winedt versions works better with newer adobe
reader versions.
