[texhax] memoir[article] and babel

actually no, the article option, it meant to emulate the look of the 
article class, with \section substituted for \chapter and so on.

The problem here is that memoir is still using the default headings 
class, which it should not in this case.

I'll add it to my list of things to fix in the next version
