As I already said, I don't speak Chinese and thus I'm not familiar
with Chinese input methods.  Hence I can't tell you which keystrokes
lead to a particular Chinese glyph.  When I select

     Options => Mule => Select Input Method => chinese-b5-quick

and type "ad1", then the glyph 杲 is displayed, can you reproduce it?

If you see rectangles instead of Chinese characters, you have to
install Chinese fonts.

What do you get if you run

     emacs --version

? Hopefully 23.*.
