I am using plain tex. However thanks for the suggestion, I
have read the doc of manyfoot and this issue was discussed,
so I will rewrite my macros to use latex and give it
manyfoot a try.

Another related question please: I read from bigfoot doc
that it has some improvements over manyfoot, however I
cannot force it to typeset footnotes into paragraphs. With
simple test files it seems to work ok, howerver when there
are many long footnotes, then they are typeset in the
"classical" latex way. A minimal test file would look as:

,--------
| \documentclass{report}
| \usepackage{bigfoot}
|
| \DeclareNewFootnote[para]{default}
| \begin{document}
| text \footnote{some note some note some note some note some
| note some note some note some note some note} \input{tufte}
| text \footnote{some note some note some note some note some
| note some note some note some note some note} \input{tufte}
| text \footnote{some note some note some note some note some
| note some note some note some note some note} \input{tufte}
| text \footnote{some note some note some note some note some
| note some note some note some note some note} \input{tufte}
| text \footnote{some note some note some note some note some
| note some note some note some note some note} \input{tufte}
| text \footnote{some note some note some note some note some
| note some note some note some note some note} \input{tufte}
| \end{document}
`--------

Thanks,
Thanh
